I just had to share here Molly's note about her sock making progress. Molly is knitting for Nancy, and this is not only her FIRST sock but also she is using her own spun yarn!

Molly has persevered through some sock knitting difficulties to come out on the other side...plus she and Nancy happen to be in the same state and may have a chance to meet up and visit! So some good fellowship along with the knitting ~ isn't that just the best? And a wonderful reflection of how, in our spiritual life, we need to press on with faith to our reward!

Anyway, Molly wrote:

I have had fun knitting this sock. It's personal now. I WILL finish that sock! LOL It's my first real sock and I'm so glad to knit it for Nancy. I'm actually using some of my own spindle-spun yarn! And, (Nancy) I may just bring it to you in person! I would love to meet you. Well, off to knit!!!

A procrastinator's update on the feet to prayers sock swap

I received my package from my partner quite a while ago. And I believe that I have e-mailed her and thanked her. I will thank her here as well. Thank you Judith!! Thank you for my sock and pattern, for the angel mold (how did you know that I like angels?) and for the sheep!! I have also updated this in my blog.

This is the sock knitted by my partner. And the pattern that she wrote. On 2 circular size 3 needle. And they fit pretty well too. Now I need to knit up its mate so I can wear them instead of just admiring them here at my computer station.

Along with the sock and yarn, Judith sent me an angel mold, and a Serta sheep!!

Now my husband's sheep has company!!My friend with the LYS also sells furniture, (that was the primary business) and Serta mattresses. When we bought our new mattress, we got a sheep. She also raises sheep.

Charlotte, It's On It's Way

My Feet To Prayers Pal has been Charlotte. Poor Charlotte has been very patient with me since I had knit three "almost socks" and had a meltdown! I have still not decided what I am going to do about that sock, however I have sent a sockless package on its way to Charlotte, and hopefully you will like the other goodies too! :-) Never fear...Charlotte WILL receive a sock as soon as I figure this all out and get my brain moving forward! Even though I didn't do the greatest job finishing on this exchange, I have really enjoyed that we can pray for each other and I like that the next one, we will know who we are so it will be easier to discuss with each other and get to know each other better! So many times I found myself wanting to tell Charlotte something, but knew if I did, it would give my identity away.

A HUGE THANK YOU Cary! You did an awesome job on this swap and I think I can speak for all the ladies...we really appreciate you!

Sharon sent me the following update on her Feet To Prayers swap (and it sounds like she is pretty happy!):

I have received the gorgeous sock, hand-dyed yarn, crochet bookmark, Hershey's Chocolate bar, pattern and a box of inspirational sayings, all from my secret sister..... Charlotte. The pattern and colors she chose for my sock is beautiful! I am looking forward to knitting the matching sock after the holidays. Thank you Charlotte.

I also have sent out a package to my "Feet to Prayers" partner. She may have it as of yesterday or today. I was a bit delayed getting this to the Post Office but.... she should have it this week.

I also received my "prize" from Eve. Oh my goodness..... what a gorgeous hand-dyed sock yarn. The colors are perfect as it signifies my recent scare with what was thought to be breast cancer, as well as my youngest daughters recent breast tumor which was found to be benign. Making socks with this yarn and wearing them will remind us how fortunate we have been and how we fully support research to hopefully someday cure this awful disease. Eve also sent me the cutest little sock blocker key chain with a pattern to make a tiny sock to fit this. Cute! Eve remembered how much I loved the photos of her "Rose of Sharon" photos on her blog and sent me seeds to start growing my own next spring. Thank you Eve!

Hello, Dear Sisters!

Well, December 1st (our deadline for mailing packages) has come and gone....didn't the time seem to just fly by?!?

By now you should have sent your packages out to your Pal, or contacted her to let her know if it will soon be on its way. I think there were about half of us who didn't mail right out by the first, but that is okay as long as you let your Pal know so she knows she isn't forgotten!

Were you blessed by doing this? I know I was. I feel like I got a glimpse into Pamela's sweet heart and funny spirit by the gifts and notes and prayers she sent to me! I couldn't have had a better pal! And I was blessed to be praying for Eve and her family, to be selecting little things to send along to her, to laugh and frown over her "Socks in the Dirt" sock yarn - hehehe - I hope she will share a photo when it arrives ;)

I hope (and I think you are) that most of you will be joining in for the Life Overflowing swap, too!

Big, fat snowflakes are falling gently down this morning and a bright silver moon is shining, making everything look new and peaceful. I wish it were so for all the world, and my heart is full of sadness for those who don't know the peace of having Jesus Christ the Saviour of their lives no matter what their circumstance. Lets all pray for each others unsaved loved ones this week!

I got my sock and goodies from Eve.

Do you see that sock? Isn’t it incredible? Eve developed the pattern herself and it is just stunning. I wish I had one of those top of the range cameras that cost a gazillion dollars, because nothing less would do justice to the splendour of this sock. Boy oh boy, do I have my work cut out for me, making its mate.

Eve also sent me some wonderful gifts, including the pretty Friendship mordiford, made with the assistance of Ruben. I think Eve intended this to be hung outside, for the birds, but it’s going on my Christmas tree instead. It’s much too good for the birds.

The little bracelet on top of the box is so pretty. Eve, is it intended to be used for counting rows?

Eve also included some fruit’n’nut nibbles. I’m so proud of myself for not scoffing them before taking a photo.

Was there ever anyone so generous as Eve?

On a different note: Cary – all my emails to you, from either of my email addresses, keep getting bounced back. I can’t figure out what’s gone wrong, but be assured that I am NOT ignoring you!

Crushed Under Our Feet

Oh, one final picture for today's post and that is my slippers from Pamela! I love, love, LOVE these slippers! What is the yarn Pamela? The pattern is great, and the yarn kind of stretchy. Photo is a bit dark for some reason and don't you love my snazzy pajama pants?

I also received in the mail yesterday a pen and mug pad AND a rubber yellow duckie...is that for all the rain we have been getting Pamela? He might need an umbrella, too....OH, I just thought that I HAVE one of those pretty little paper umbrellas that would be just right for him!

My prize arrived yesterday - yaaaaay!

The most gorgeous yarn and sock pattern ever - thank you so much. I love it. I'm still bubbling over with excitement at having won something.

Cary, being the dearest and most generous person in the world, didn't just send me my prize. She also tooked in some extra goodies, including the fabulous Bittersweet sock yarn that I had admired so much on her blog and some pretty stitch markers made by Nakia. Thank you Cary and thank you Nakia. I'd write to you properly, but my emails keep bouncing back to me, boohoo.

I'm currently working on my last parcel, to send on our deadline. As yet, poor Cary hasn't had sight of my chosen bible verse. I've been incubating ideas for weeks, but they've generally proved to be over-ambitious. I'm now back on track and just need a couple of hatpins. Yup, that's supposed to be a clue (mwahahahahahahahaha).

I took advantage of some extra knitting time over the last few days and finished up my sock. I am quite pleased with how it came out, especially since I was designing on the fly. Like some of the other ladies, I made a mistake too. I could have avoided it if I cut one of my yarns, but I really didn't want to do that, especially since it was my handspun! Here's a picture, with the colors altered, although I like these colors too! I think that I have all of my shopping done, so the package should go out on Monday. I'm so excited for my partner to get her sock!

My Beautiful Sock From Cindy

Hi Ladies, I am finally sharing my photo of my sock from Cindy. I was waiting awhile because I didn't want my Secret Sock Sister to find out who I am. But due to knitterly disasters out of my control, I am going to be writing to her soon and begging pardon! I will have the tale of woe on my blog some time tonight or this weekend! I have been knitting a long time, I don't know how this little sock has kicked me down so many times, but I am exhausted and taking a break at the moment!

But, Cindy was a wonderful swap partner and she knit the most beautiful sock for me. It has my favorite colors...purples...and it is warm and fits! She posted the pattern on her blog and I think earlier here. She also sent me so little sample goody bags of Alpaca and Llama fibers from Louet in natural shades. I haven't been able to spin for awhile and have been debating whether or not to spin them on my wheel or use them while I learn how to spin on my lovely Bosworth that Pamela sent me. Along with the roving was some beautiful stationery, a note pad with a magnet on it, which is already in use on my fridge, a cute little lavender whimsical sheep votive holder and a white ceramic sheep that is some type of holder...we haven't figured out yet what its original usage was meant for as the top comes off (unusual for a toothbrush holder) and it is much shorter with wider openings. I like it and am trying to decide how best to use it.

After some very bad experiences on other swaps, this was so nice. And Cindy's thoughtful application of scriptures both to me in email, on her blog and on this blog were so encouraging to me. Thank you Cindy for the lovely knitting and all the thoughtful gifts and your time! I appreciate you and I look forward to wearing my socks!

I have been camera-less for the past week and so unable to update all of the goodies coming my way. But finally, here in a group photo, are my latest lovelies from Pamela:

Aren't they amazing???? Fluttering above them all is the little Cicada pouch with its shiny jeweled eyes and beaded handle. I have this cutey sitting next to me at my desk, just because it makes me smile ;)

Then there is my pincushion in the neatest fabric. It looks like a hot air balloon to me Pamela! Or an ice cream cone...I love it! Then TEESWATER fiber to spin!!! And then, the oh-so-pretty felted bag! Guess what??? A sock knitting project fits in there perfectly...is that what you planned Pamela?

You are so very, very dear!!! All of my gifts from Pamela have come one at a time, prolonging the joy of them. To take this photo I placed these things on a shawl that Pamela had asked me about in a previous post. I wanted to fill you in about this shawl. I believe it is Jackie's (Heartstrings) pattern (Hearts something or other...my mind is going blank) It is a Faroese style and it was knit for me by CARISSA!!! I think she said it is Corriedale and angora yarn? You might remember me mentioning that back when Bill went suddenly into the hospital, I came home the second or third day to a package. Inside was this gift, and Carissa said she had just finished it and the Holy Spirit prompted her to send it to me. BEFORE she knew about Bill being in hospital!!! That was in February and you can believe me that this shawl has been my hug many times when I needed it!!! And I think of Carissa and God our loving Father every time it is wrapped around my shoulders.

What a blessing it is to share in the lives of so many wonderful Christian sisters! I never take it for granted, believe me. So rather than a verse with this post, I want to share a little prayer taken from a Childs Book of Prayers. It reminds me of my loving Sisters...you are all an example to me! Here it is:

"Father, we thank Thee for the night
And for the pleasant morning light,
For rest and food and loving care,
And all that makes the world so fair.

Oh, I meant to write that this is your weekly update - LOL! But I'm beginning to think that this bronchial thing I have may require a trip to the doctor's office...

The weeks are winging by, aren't they? I have the latest prize winner...in fact I have TWO winners to announce this week (grin) They are CHARLOTTE and NANCY!!! Batteries are dead in the camera, but as soon as I have photos I will post them to you. I also have pictures to share of my latest treasures from that sneaky Pamela!!! Trips to the mail box are quite the adventure for me, thanks to that dear girl!

I know that lots of others have been sick, too. Sharon is zipping along with her sock progress. I have to finish up the toe on Eve's sock. Theresa is wrestling with finding just the right pattern (Oh boy, do I know that feeling Theresa!) Kimberly has been sick, too, but is just about ready to send her pattern out.

Waiting for me when I got home from the knitting group, was an envelope from Cary with a couple of patterns inside... Thank you Cary!

I'd admired the socks she made using one of the patterns and so I'm itching to try the pattern ... will I be able to resist long enough to finish the socks I'm working on first?

And there was another pattern that will come in handy, my dogs are grateful. *G* Photo of the patterns on my new blog Perennial Grace along with a story about the pattern for the dogs.

My pkg will be going in the mail to my partner soon. It has taken me much longer to type up the pattern than I thought, but I'm almost done with it. It didn't occur to me to type the pattern as I went along.. duh.. that would have been too easy.

Charlotte Update

Well, I think I am done knitting my sock now, I left the last few stitches held on a few safety pins for my secret partner to weave in after she makes sure the sock is a good fit for her. I used a free internet pattern called "Little Shell Socks" that I hope she will like. I get the impression she likes feminine things. I dyed the yarn myself in her favorite colors-jewel tones of blue, purple, some turquoise, and some burgundy. The flash on my camera blanched them out some, in person they are more distinctive/less all-blue looking. Now I just need to finish up the gifts and goodies I'm sending along with the typed up instructions that include all of my notes.

Sharon emailed me with her sock update. She wrote:

Another sock update...... thought I would send this early for next weeks update. I have changed from handspun for making slipper socks as I orginally planned to another yarn. I am hoping to finish this sock next week and put the package together to send out to my secret sister. I am praying she will like this sock and the yarn.

I'm sure your Secret Sister will love anything you do, Sharon, you are so creative! Lets all be rejoicing for Sharon and her family about the good news with Renee's test results!!! Thank you Lord ;D

What does everyone have planned for the weekend? It is very cold her in Michigan, last nights temperatures were in the low 20's....18 degrees with windchill factored in!

Following Through

When I read this scripture this morning, I thought of our little group here and how, through prayer, we are helping to bear each others burdens...sharing in the load and helping to carry them to Christ. Lets especially remember to lift one another up this week!

My other update is about my own knitting for my Secret Sis, Eve. I am turning the heel as we speak, and liking the looks of things more as I go. Isn't that often the way? When we aren't exactly comfortable with our progress, or the bumps in the road that come our way...wouldn't our Heavenly Father have us to persevere, continue in good faith, following His direction and pressing towards the finish?

My prayer for you today is that you would see His hand in your life today, and that the road ahead would be filled with promise if you will only follow Him!

Cicada

I finished the Cicada from Kokoro no Te. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I even had some unexpected good fortune with the handle. Mindful of Cary's $20 limit, I needed everything to come from my stash, but didn't think I had anything suitable for the handle. However, some vigorous rummaging produced a packet of beads that were EXACTLY what I wanted. I bought them a long time ago, with no particular purpose in mind, and then completely forgot about them. Happy me!

I mailed the cicada today, but didn't take a photo, because I don't want Cary to see it before it flutters into her mailbox.

Ta da! Now I just need to put together a pkg to send out. Hmmm I have to think a little bit about what I want to put in it. This could be fun!

In one of her posts Pamela made a comment about there being a design element in her sock.. *G*

Well there is one in mine. I showed my sock progress to the ladies in my Monday knitting group and mentioned that there was a tiny oops in one cable, even though it is the easiest cable design possible, that's what happens when you read or watch tv while you knit. It probably would be a good thing to look at my work or actually count rows and not eyeball it.

Anyway... one of the ladies said... ooh well that design element just shows that you are a quilter (I am) at heart and as many quilters do, you intentionally did one little thing differently to see if anyone could find it. So... that's my story and I'm sticking to it... I did a quilter's thing in my sock.

The yarn was spun from a Finn/Dorset cross wool, so should make yummy bouncy socks (if that is what Carissa decides to use it for!)

I don't know if you can see in the photos, but the beads feature butterflies which seem appropriate to think of our dear friend, Dale!

We can look at these verses in 2 ways. One, that as long as we continue to look to Jesus, He will heal us of all our infirmities. (I don't plan on that while my feet are planted on this green Earth, but I do know that when we get to Heaven we will all be made perfect.) Or, two, that Jesus is the goal and objective of our faith. And that our level paths equal a call for uright conduct that will help, rather than hinder, the spiritual and moral welfare of others, especially the 'lame' who waver in the Christian faith.

Either way, we as Christians, need to 'walk the walk' before & as 'we talk the talk'.

Praying for us all the show Christ to others around us in all that we do and say as we go about our days. \0/ Thank you Lord, for dying for us and taking away our sins.

Update on feet to prayers sock swap from Cindy

I know, it is not Monday. I am always behind the eight ball. :( But, I have had my sock for my partner done for a while now. I have it updated on my blog, and I would prefer my partner not look at it until she receives her sock. ;-) I am writing the pattern out for you. (Well, as soon as I finish this I will)

This yarn-Froehlich wolle, Blauband Maxi Ringel from Switzerland-has been lounging around in my stash waiting for the perfect sock and for the perfect recipient.Now, these are my colors (except maybe for the bright pink), but it was not screaming at me to make a sock for myself.
This was so much fun, and this yarn had my partner's choice of colors in it. I also needed to come up with a pretty pattern that would expand over the ankles and feet.
I just a very simple lacy ribbed pattern with a 5 stitch repeat.
Cast on x# sts. Start pattern rows.
Row 1: Knit 3, purl 2 around, x# times. (12 if you cast on 60 sts.)
Row 2: Knit 1, yarn over, knit 2 together, purl 2. repeat all the way around.
Row 3: Knit 3, purl 2 around.
Row 4: Knit 2 together, yarn over, purl 2. repeat around.
Now, I do not remember where I found this pattern. If some one knows, please let me know so that I can give credit where it is due.

Not much progress

I didn't get much done in the last week on my sister's sock. With the whole job situation, I didn't feel much like knitting or spinning. So I have decided to purchase rather than spin the cream colored yarn for my sock, and then the rest should go so much faster. Off to order my yarn!

It is wonderful to read all of the neat updates and see what everyone has been doing. I wanted to share my own update on Eve's sock. Take a look at the photo below:

Those are the colors in Eve's sock...the golden greens, yellow-green and rusty brown (remember when I ordered the yarn I had asked for browns, greens and deep reds - autumn colors...hmmmm). hehe....I hope the sock doesn't end up reminding you to much of a fading garden, Eve! I finally settled on a pattern and am about halfway through with the sock. I am actually becoming quite fond of it, in an accepting sort of way ;D At least it will have a history by the time it reaches you!

My scripture today is from the Psalms. "Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in truth and teach me for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day." Psalms 25:4-5

Woe is me

Boohoo. I decided to make Cary a Temari pincushion, using a pattern from Omiyage. I had problems from the start, trying to make the ball sort-of roundish. It's more sort-of blobbish. I should have listened to my brain right there and then. It was screaming at me "This is not going well. Try something else". But no, I had already picked out my fabrics, pretty chirimen silks in pink and grey, so I was determined to proceed. Big mistake. For some reason, once cut, hemmed and stitched to the ball, the silks look drab and, well, very grey. I guess it serves me right for teasing Cary about itchy grey yarn.

Also, despite lining the silk pieces with felt, the ball is still as lumpy and mis-shapen as ever. What's more, all the pieces come together and overlap at the top and bottom (mega-lumpy). This is mentioned in the pattern instructions, so it's not that I've done anything wrong. However, I failed to appreciate that this conglomeration of seams would make it nigh on impossible to stick a pin in the top section. Cary will have to harpoon the sides instead.

I was also worried by the way the ball rolled around. Well, that's what balls do. However, I had visions of a ball stuck with pins rolling round and scratching the table surface, or rolling onto the floor and being trodden on. I decided to stitch a little stand at the bottom, so that it would stand up. Technically, this was a howling success. However, visually it's appalling. First, it emphasises the lumpiness even more than ever. Second, it now looks like I've made Cary the most hideous crystal ball! Aaaaaargh!

I thought I could conceal some of the lumpiness at the top by adding a small, padded circle of fabric. As with the stand, this was technically a success, but visually another disaster. My creation now looks rather like the Coronation crown, but without the pretty gold bits. Ugh.

I've wrapped my offering in heavy duty brown paper, but the lumps still show. I'm going to send it to Cary anyway, but strictly on the understanding that it is to be laughed at immoderately.

I've now turned my attentions to a very stylish cicada pattern in Kokoro No Te that is clearly well beyond my capabilities. Poor Cary.

Clean Feet and Progress

I debated on posting a photo but I did not want to give away too many clues. I have been knitting on a couple other projects that I didn't have to concentrate as much on and this week I am going to pick back up on my sock for my sister. I have about 3" of the cuff done and I really love the look, although it does seem a bit darker than when I looked at the yarn in the skein.

I was thinking about different feet passages in the Bible and I have to say that I find the one where Jesus washes the disciples feet incredible. I really relate to Peter (I think that's right, I'm doing this from memory) who did not want Jesus to wash his feet. I would be so embarrassed to have someone wash my feet with the callouses and dry skin and funny toes. Yet, the God of all the Universe knelt on the floor and washed their feet. Humbling and humble. I would like to say I have that type of humility in my faith, but I am not sure I am there yet!

Well, I better get back to work, but I wanted to make a check in. I have enjoyed everyone's updates!

For my own update, I must write about my very special FTP sister who has been so generous! I know who she is (Pamela) and not only has she blessed me almost daily with little notes of encouragement and prayers, but also just about daily gifts! All the way from England!!!! I also have the bookmark, chocolates, bandaids and a really neat candle that she has sent me. Ohhhh, I love the goodies Pamela and the fact that they come from England is kind of neat, too. Now, I need to measure my sock and send you some extra dimensions, don't I? I posted about Pamela's generosity on my own blog, too.

For my FTP recipient - I am just about ready to change yarns for her (Eve!) I won't show you all a photo, but I am just unhappy with it. Lynn from New York and I were discussing this last night and laughing together. Pamela and I have shared a laugh about it to. I may just knit Eve a sock with a different yarn, but send her this skein to see what she thinks - LOL!

Good Morning! We have snow in Michigan today!!! Well, we don't have it here personally at Serenity Farms - but just a little north of us they do ;)

How is everyone coming? Are you remembering to pray for your Sister daily? Maybe send her little notes of encouragement? Do you find, like I do, that I am praying and searching the scriptures for your Sock Sis that you are blessed yourself? I know I am, and isn't that just like our God and Savior - that we would be blessed by caring for someone else?

He is a good God!

Here is a picture of some little surprise goodies that my Secret Sis blessed me with:

Pamela sent me these fun gifts...to patch me up (band-aids); to sweeten me up (chocolates) and to keep me in line (bookmark) LOL! Thank you Pamela!!! She also has been letting me know that she is praying for me, and just that little note brightens my day.

I wrote about this over at my own blog, but I will mention here the empty needles in the bottom right of the photo above....signifying the lack of progress on Eve's socks. I have started and re-started more than once. I have the perfect thing in mind....now it is just getting what I want on the needles! hehe...but I have been learning as I go. Last night I cast on again, and think I am getting the pattern that I want from the yarn I have chosen.

Lets remember to pray for Kimberly and her family as they travel!

Started my partners socks....and going on vacation

We leave tomorrow for approx two weeks of fun and travel....if you can really do that with 8 people and 1 dog. But we will try. I did get some quite knitting time this morning among the madness of packing and getting ready to knit my socks for my partner. I am showing you the progress I made, but alas, I am doing it in black and white so I don't show off the colors and perhaps tip of my partner. I really hope she likes them as I am liking designing it for her.

I should have access to internet here and there so I will be able to check up on things. I will be praying for you my sweet sock parnter.

I have blueberry bushes growing in my yard, and their leaves this year turned out really pretty I think. I picked these and am going to press them...if they turn out well I will try to incoporate them into some of the fall/harvest themed items for our swap. I also found a few Virginia Creeper leaves in bright red (also pictured) and some of my Mums and Black Eyed Susans to press along with them. Trying out sock patterns...

I've been playing around with lots of yarns and lots of patterns. I finally picked out my perfect yarn, only to find I've lost a vital skein. Phooey, how did that happen? I don't normally lose anything.

Evidently, God had something else in mind for my Secret Sister and hid my rogue skein. He gave me a Big Clue, though, when I was browsing through some old CA messages, looking for something completely unrelated to the Feet to Prayers swap. Quite by chance (er, I mean, under God's perfect guidance), I opened a message sent by my Secret Sister. She mentioned something which might be described as a sock knitting "technique", although I don't want to be any more specific than that. Suffice to say, I have conducted a fresh raid on both my pattern hoard and my yarn stash and am all set to cast on.

The color may not show really well because of the flash, but it is perfect for fall/winter knitting - charcoal black with spots of rust browns/reds and even a hint of lavender! This prize was donated by Serenity Farms, and Theresa was chosen at random to be this weeks winner (meaning, I drew her name from the prize bowl, LOL!) But I am sure God always has a hand in chosing the weekly winners, God does nothing randomly!

I have not had a chance to read your posts yet, but will do so shortly. I have, though, started my sock for my partner. I have turned the heel and am working my way done the foot. But, that was last feet. I have not had time this week, but I am still praying for you!!!

I didn't have a lot of time to knit this weekend since my husband was singing in church in Sunday, but I did get a bit of spinning done and am planning to get some swatching done in the next few days. I did a good deal of knitting done this weekend. but didn't get the capelet finished. I am working feverishly to finish it so that I can get started on my sock.. I set up my knitting machine and Judy graciously helped me figure out what I had as far as tools and accessories.. I am so glad I am her partner.. I may figure out this machine after all.
I have figured out what pattern I will be using.. by the time I finish the capelet my order from knitpicks should be here. I ordered an electronic row counter so I could give better notes to Cindy.
It has been rainy here. I missed the rain.. funny.. having spent 11 years in rainy Oregon, you would think I wouldn't miss it.. But there is something so cleansing about it..

Its Monday

Did anyone get knitting time in over the weekend? I realized that a sock class I am teaching starts tonight not next Monday, the way I had been thinking! And it is a full class (at least signed up, someone may drop out) Oh oh, a scramble to get the sample sock finished and notes for class printed out - gulp!

The sock yarn I ordered specially for my not-so-Secret Sis (Eve) arrived Saturday and I started her sock. I had originally planned a different pattern until I saw the yarn and it just didn't fit into the plan. I also ordered some of Kimberly's Americana yarn and it arrived along with a lovely little something extra ;) Kimberly has great service and I am very happy with the yarn. It will be socks and maybe mittens for Mason...he asked me for red, white and blue socks ;)

Has anyone else been knitting?

We will have another prize drawn tomorrow - Tuesday. I think I will call it Ta-Dah Tuesdays (grin)

Hello Everybody

Well, I am trying to remain a secret. So, in light of that I think I will keep as much information to myself as possible for the time being...and reveal things slowly. I was wondering how those who want to remain Secret will manage to do this if some folks do not maintain secret identities-it can be a matter of deduction if a number of pairs are revealed or are guessed. So...I am trying to hold off with info until I know more about what other folks have decided in the attempt to maximize my strategy :). I have started working on my sock project and have two patterns selected so far that I think would be nice. Both are of the "free internet" variety-thank you Cary for your helpful insights on how to go about selecting a pattern, knitting precision, etc. I am a leftie, and doubt if this will make any significant difference in the long run. I hadn't thought of this before. My finished articles don't look different than those knit by right handed people, it's just the process of making the stitches that is different...I knit all the stitches the same as the pattern calls for, and in the same order. I think this is accurate...my grandmother taught me, and she was right-handed.

Fall Friday

It feels very much like fall here on this last Friday of September! How about where you live? Wool socks and a warm shawl around the neck are all on order here in Michigan this morning ;)

I thought I might give you some tips for knitting half a pair of socks for your sister. I found this helpful in the last "half a pair of socks" swap I was in ;) One is to make notes about the pattern you are sending to her. By that I mean, make note of how many rows of pattern repeat or how many inches you knit in each section; be sure to note the number of stitches and needle size you are using...something to help her get a matching sock. One person in the Summer Sock Swap I was just in even left the foot of the sock she was knitting unfinished so that her swapee could finish the sock in just the right size! I thought that was kind of clever if you have someone who is fussy about their sock size.

Also, remember that you do have to send her the pattern, too, so if you are knitting a pattern from a book, you would have to be sure that she has that book, too, or else send her the book or magazine! No copyright infringements please!!! That is where some of the free on-line patterns come in great (or if you happen to be one of our clever pattern writers here)

Can any of you think of other suggestions that would be helpful?

Well, after some thought, while I would love knitting a stranded sock, I'm not sure that my Secret Sister would enjoy it as much as I would. So since I still want to use two colors, I am look for some slip stitch pattern instead. These are easier and still look great. It is neat that design can be such a fluid process!

Well this feetie is very tired. Joel dropped off Connor while he went to check his Dad's boat, er... I mean Joel's boat, before it is lifted out of the lake for winter. While I didn't get a lot done, I did look at sock patterns I have and some of my own. Ok... so I've narrowed it down to about 6!

Hmm... I want it to be pretty, but not something that will cause someone to pull their hair when they make the second sock. Wouldn't be nice, eh?

I'm dog sitting for a friend while she is off to her FIL's funeral in New Jersey. The dogs are Standard Poodles and happy, bouncy, happy. The last time I watched them, I ended up with bruises, cause ... well.. standing up they are taller than I am. That isn't saying much. I have to watch them till at least Saturday, I just couldn't say no. If you never hear from me again, you will know they did me in and someone will have to knit a sock for my Secret Sis. *G*

I have been having fun looking through my stash and searching on eBay for ideas for socks and yarn. I have been encouraged by the feet verses shared on here already. I need the constant encouragement right now to keep my feet planted firmly and not feed into the exhaustion of my own health and taking care of my family. So, really even though I have a lot to do, this is good time to keep my focus off myself and onto the special person I am knitting for! I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you all. After reading some old issues of Spin Off, I was inspired by an article about the Komi Mittens from Charlene Scurch's Mostly Mittens. I am going to try to spin my own yarn for this, using a white solid and a variegated color for the pattern. Now I just need to decide which pattern to use. And a verse on feet for today: He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. Psalm 40:2.

Good morning! It is a glorious fall morning here in mid-Michigan, with the sun bright in the eastern sky and the western sky streaked with rosy fingered light...what is the old saying "red sky at morning, sailor take warning"? Thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon.

Welcome to the Feet To Prayers Sock Swap...a harvest time knitting and praying sock/knit-a-long!

Sign ups ended on September 20 and we officially began September 23rd (the Autumnal Equinox). This swap will officially end on December 1st and I think we will try to have every thing in the mail to your pal no later than December 1st.

In this exchange, you pick out yarn, pattern and a few fall or harvest themed items to gift to your Secret Sock Sister. You will knit the first sock, then send that sock with the remainder of the yarn and the pattern, along with any goodies, to your pal. I have done two other swaps like this and had so much fun doing them...it is very exciting!

So there is one more requirement to go along with the sock, yarn, pattern and little gifts and that is that you search your Bible and find a scripture that has a reference to Prayer - and one that includes feet, marching, going forward, etc. would be good, too! Commit yourself to spending time in prayer for your Secret Sock Sister as you knit and prepare her goodies for her. Send emails or leave comments on her blog during the swap. Lets get to know our Sisters in Christ! It is totally up to you (and your sock sister) whether or not you remain anonymous. A blog is not required to participate - but fun! We will try using this blog as a one-stop check in point, especially for those who don't have a blog. I say we will try it because if it gets to confusing or hectic, we will do away with it. I am going to ask that we have a set day for “official” updates and I am going to make that day Monday. If you do not have a blog, please e-mail me by Sunday with your update, and I will post it here on Monday.
